These plans are designed to prevent the client from paying a large amount if something happens and major work needs to be done. For a client without insurance, you will pay the full cost out of your pocket. This can be very expensive, but with a dental, vision, or hearing plan you will pay less out of pocket.
Most Medicare Advantage Plans include some dental and vision coverage, but will only cover basic exams and a portion of glasses/contacts. Having a dental plan can prevent you from spending a large amount of money out of your pocket for just a small monthly premium.

Medicare does not cover dental, vision or hearing. Most dental plans have a 12-month waiting period for comprehensive coverage but immediate coverage for preventative and routine work. These plans have a maximum benefit they pay out, which means once the plan has paid the maximum amount, it will not pay anymore claims for that calendar year. If you use an in network dentist, the procedure prices will continue to be negotiated to the plans in-network allowed amount. Maximum amounts can vary between each plan.
